Rust (Corten)

Rust (Corten) Powder Coating

Corten Steel (COR-TEN) is a high strength weathering steel which forms a stable, attractive rust-like appearance when exposed to weather. The panels are suitable mostly for outdoor use with a variety of applications.

Unlike most metals, Corten or weathering steel is designed to form a rust patina when exposed to the weather elements. A layer of rust forms on the outer surface and acts as a protective coating. The colour and extent of the rust effect depends on the elements it is exposed to, and will vary from panel to panel. The name “COR-TEN” stands for it's two primary properties. ‘Cor’ signifies Corrosion Resistance, while ‘Ten’ indicates Tensile Strength.

Corten weathering stages

Your sign will arrive in its pristine state and transforms over time, developing a natural rust patina when exposed to the elements. The initial state is a raw and industrial aesthetic, with the anticipation of a beautiful rusted finish emerging gradually with weathering. As this Corten steel interacts with the elements, it undergoes its transformation, revealing a distinct patina that adds character and depth to its appearance. Embrace the evolving beauty of your corten sign, as it weathers gracefully, telling a story of time and nature.
